An Embodied Journey

Joshua began practicing yoga as a healing modality for a body trained for the stage. Dedicated from a young age to the art of movement and expression, Joshua ardently pursued a career in the theatre - a journey that would gift him the experience of performing across the country for two decades.

The practice of yoga became a unifying source of support and strength for Joshua throughout this time. For many years he practiced on his own in the safety of his bedroom (with a league of yoga DVDs) before he summoned the courage to attend a public class in a studio for the first time in 2003. As a result, his practiced flourished and led him to a desire to dive deeply into the teachings of yoga.

Joshua has completed over 500 hours of yoga teacher training and has dedicated himself to an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning - both as a student and as a teacher. Joshua is particularly passionate about sharing his experience and understanding of restorative and yin yoga, Buddhist meditation and Eastern philosophy. He draws inspired influence from teachers and guides including: Sarah Powers, Pema Chödrön, Hali Schwartz, Felicia Pavlovic, Scott Davis and Meredith Bannan.

Off the mat, Joshua enjoys preparing meals, reading, listening to music and tending to The Hideout - one of PEI’s best kept secrets, located on the South Shore of the island - with his partner, the writer Trevor Corkum. Quiet time is often spent outdoors - immersed in practices meant to recalibrate and remember - floating in the ocean, hiking local trails, travelling, and seeking out solo pilgrimages and retreats to beautiful places. Joshua's path is richly supported by the practice of kirtan and bhakti yoga and by an incredible web of family, friends and community.

In 2021, Joshua graduated from a 5 year masters-level program in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Ontario Psychotherapy and Counselling Program. Integrating his various interests, Joshua’s studies culminated with a research project into the practice of Contemplative Psychotherapy - and the various intersections between Western and Buddhist psychologies.

Joshua is currently a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and Counselling Therapist (CT) in private practice working with individuals and couples. His professional roles also include mentoring students as an OPC teaching assistant and group therapy co-facilitator.
